As reported from Sina Auto that on January 7,2019 Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter: "I look forward to today's Tesla Shanghai Super Factory (Gigafactory) broke ground!" Currently, Musk also revealed through Twitter that The first phase of the Shanghai plant will be completed this summer, and the Model 3 model will be mass-produced at the end of the year. According to Musk, the Shanghai plant will include Model 3 and Model Y, and the vehicles produced will be sold only in China. Model X and Model S and high-end Model 3 and Model Y will still be produced in the US and exported to China.
